So in the interval I was queuing at the bar and a lady asked if she'd pushed in front of me (we Brits are so polite!), I replied that I didn't really know but as it was such a wonderful evening I wasn't going to get into a fight! She agreed and I then said that I was really looking forward to seeing Mr.Doyle as all the stories were so amusing. She said that she worked for him and yes the stories were all true!
The second half opened with Mike Newell, Director of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire introducing the Harry Potter Waltz and Harry in Winter.
Patrick Doyle's daughter then introduced a new work by Patrick called Rosalind Violin Concerto with a solo by the wonderful lead violinist Carmine Lauri who was right in front of us. It was inspired by As You Like it, Japan and Scottish music!!
Next up, was Celia Imrie looking very fetching in a single strap slinky gown and Angela Baker. Angela is the real-life widow as made famous in The Calendar Girls movie. She said all the original Calendar Girls were in a box in the Hall and they took a bow. She spoke very clearly and bravely of the work they had done raising money in her husband's memory. They introduced a song that Patrick had written but that had not been used in the movie. It was called I Find Your Love and was sung by an American singer Beth Nielsen Chapman. I hadn't heard of her but she was fabulous and had lost her husband to cancer also.
John Sessions was supposed to be up next but couldn't make it so Adrian Lester introduced music from Carlito's Way.
Finally, Judi Dench appeared on the podium nearest us. She is tiny and she too was picking at her hands nervously during her speech. She introduced Kenneth Branagh and Jimmy Yuill who performed part of Henry V (the St Crispin's Day speech) which was pretty bloody amazing. Patrick Doyle joined them and sang, in very fine voice, the Non Nobis from the soundtrack of Henry V.
So that was the end of the show but it wasn't quite finished. Patrick and all the cast took to the stage and he gave a very emotional speech and got a standing ovation. He then informed us that they would all be singing a song together. I can't recall what is was called but some knew the words but others looked at crib sheets down on stage.
It was a fabulous evening that I'll remember for a long time.
Here are a few more photos (not marvellous I know!) and a couple of very short vids I took at the end.
I was also delighted to meet Thegirlinthecafe. It was great to meet you Ingrid and be sure to check out her report and photos on her site.

All the front women were incredibly powerful singers. The two younger ones were Patrick's daughters and Imelda was belting out too.

I actually have a question and would appreciate it very much if you could do a favour and tell me about AR's rank in British theatre and modern culture. Surfing through the internet for the information about AR I learned that he's in the first place a dramatic, a stage actor and only after that a screen actor. Though he's been doing pretty much filming in the last decade he started acting in movies rather late, in his 40s, if I'm not mistaken. Stage acting is his primary activity and, what is most important, a vocation, at least I believe it is so. And this must determine his acting technique, the quality of his acting, as dramatic actors are much more impressive and strong than those screen ones who haven't had a dramatic education. So I'm very interested how good he is in stage acting. What's his professional reputation in British drama? What's his rank among other British actors? Have you seen any of his plays? What's your personal impression? Can you compare him to other actors (BTW are you a theatre-goer)? Is AR one of the best ones?
And, by your permission, I have one more question. Having discovered Alan Rickman as an actor and his magnetic intellectually sensual charisma (which started as an interest in the Snape character, first from HP films, then it grew stronger through Snape fanfics and afterall lead me to the personality of AR himself) I searched for and watched several british films with him (and some more british ones without AR). I noticed that the cast is often the same, the same 4 or 5 actors feature there. Then I found out that they are (well, honestly I'm not fully sure of that), like AR, famous british dramatic actors and actresses and perform on the stage (eg, Emma Thompson, Imelda Staunton). So I'm wondering if they all work in the same theatre or acting company, which must be the Britain's best one? Is it so? Watching the pictures from the concert you've posted I see they all look like a family. Seems they've very well known each other for ages. Such a warm atmosphere. And it's always really touching to see old friends gathered together to make one common cause, like it was there, in that concert.
Thank you so much for the probable answers in advance! And if you don't mind and if I'm allowed to, I'd like to go on reading your lj, commenting, watching you great pictures and learning more about Britain (my wanna-visit country) and AR, of course! And I like the design very much. Pleased to meet you!
